Caramel color E150a is obtained by controlled heat treatment of food carbohydrates. No ammonium or sulphite compounds are used in the process. It has a strong after taste and a mild aroma, and its color can range from yellow to red. These colors exhibit stability in alcohol-rich, tannin-rich, and salt-rich environments.   Caramel color E150c is obtained by controlled heat treatment of food carbohydrates in the presence of ammonium compounds, and no sulfite compounds. It is a liquid product with medium hue index which provides a red-brown coloring.   Caramel Color (E150d) is obtained by controlled heat treatment of food carbohydrates in the presence of both ammonium compounds and sulphite compounds. It is a liquid product with a high color strength, good water solubility, acid-proof, and stable quality.
