ICE WATER MANAGEMENT IS DEPLOYING A NEW CCRO TECHNOLOGY.
Thanks to a partnership with DuPont DesalitecTM, ICE Water Management is deploying a new CCRO technology (Closed Circuit Reverse Osmosis).
As per conventional reverse osmosis demineralisation, CCRO removes ions and mineral salts from the water. However, this new method of implementing osmosis offers multiple advantages.
Due to its high resistance to biofouling, this technology is particularly effective for the treatment of water sensitive to biological clogging, such as in the case of water reclamation from wastewater treatment plants.
It is also suitable for the treatment of water loaded with silica and sulphates, for which it is possible to achieve conversion rates beyond chemical balances. By using CCRO, the volume of concentrate discharged to the drain is reduced and the volume of permeate collected is increased, without reducing the quality. The optimisation of water recovery is possible thanks to fine tuning between the duration of the two operating phases (closed circuit production phase and purge phase).
The challenge is to find a balance between maximised closed loop production time and minimised purge cycle time.
Compared to classic reverse osmosis, the CCRO allows:
• water savings, up to 80 %,
• reduced energy consumption of the system by about 35%.
• reduction in clogging, biofouling and scaling of the membranes
• lower CIP frequency (cleanning in place), reduced by a factor of 4 to 6,
• better flexibility and adaptability to the variability of feed water composition
